Expert Composites & Blanks (ECB) provides materials of the very highest quality.  Our products and services are intended to help you build your lightest and strongest boards ever, in a simple and cost effective way. Our blanks, made of special grade polystyrene using the latest –fusion– technology, have the following unique properties:

OPTIMUM STRENGTH-TO-WEIGHT RATIO
With a density of approximately of 2 lbs/cu ft (32.3 kg/m3), our blanks allow to build very light finished surfboards—4.2 pounds for a six foot surfboard with regular glassing. In addition, they do not delaminate.

SHAPING
ECB blanks have a consistent density, free of soft spots and hard outer skin. They can be shaped with a planer, shaping machine, or hot wire. After final shaping, ECB blanks feature a very smooth surface that allows cleaner and lighter glassing.

GLASSING
ECB blanks require epoxy resin for lamination. This resin further increases the impact strength. ECB blanks are extremely light, yet so strong they can be glassed as lightly as regular polyurethane blanks.  Resin and fiberglass can be applied directly:  there is no need to prepare the surface with sealants.

WATER ABSORPTION
ECB blanks have a high resistance to water degradation. More than most polyurethane and polystyrene (EPS) blanks.

UV LIGHT RESISTANCE
ECB blanks are highly resistant to the yellowing effects of ultraviolet light.  They don’t discolor around dings.

STRINGERS
Expert Composites & Blanks offers stringers made out of non-endangered wood species and of renewable materials.

The stringers available are the following:

Balsa and plywood stringers are recommended for high performance, very light surfboards. Wood stringers are available in 1/8" and 1/4" thickness. Plywood stringers are available in 1/8” thickness for blanks up to 8’.
Custom wood thicknesses, other woods and multiple stringers are available upon request.

EPOXY RESINS
Expert Composites & Blanks offers a complete line of epoxy resins designed specifically for surfboard manufacturing. These resins are the product of the latest research and development. Epoxy resins are not only stronger, but also they have better color and produce less fumes than polyester resins. ECB resins have the best UV-Light inhibitors to further protect the boards from yellowing. Pot life can be customized by using our different formulas, from 1 to 35 minutes. Without a doubt, ECB resins are the best glassing products available in the market.
